Jonathan Larson based Joanne on Alcindoro (male) in La Boheme. Alcindoro was Musetta’s councilor and wealthy older protector.
THE FIRST ‘JOANNE’:
In RENT’s Original Broadway Production, the role of Joanne was played by Fredi Walker-Browne. It was her Broadway debut!
