DANCE PRACTICE with Mimi
PSSSST! The crowd at the Cat Scratch Club doesn’t know this, but I also love tap, ballet and jazz! My advice: LEARN ALL KINDS OF DANCE. Sometimes you’ll be surprised by which styles suit you best!

Mimi’s signature blue pants were originally from Daphne Rubin-Vega’s personal closet! Since then, the RENT costume staff has replicated the same pants for all Mimis!
BOHEME BACKSTORY:
Jonathan Larson based RENT’s Mimi on the character of the same name in La Boheme. Although Mimi comes back to life at the end of RENT, Boheme’s Mimi dies of tuberculosis, or consumption, as it was commonly known at the time.
THE FIRST ‘MIMI’:
In RENT’s Original Broadway Production, the role of Mimi was played by Daphne Rubin-Vega, who has since that time released two full-length albums of original music and has starred in numerous Broadway and Off-Broadway shows.
