In Jonathan Larson’s early notes for RENT (dated 1993), the character of Roger wrote “musical plays” – just like Larson himself!
BOHEME BACKSTORY:
The character of Roger is based on the poet Rodolfo in La Boheme. Rodolfo is the signature role of opera singer Luciano Pavarotti , who made his operatic debut as Rodolfo in 1961 at the opera house in Reggio Emilia, Italy.
THE FIRST ‘ROGER’:
In RENT’s Original Broadway Production, the role of Roger was played by Adam Pascal, who started a rock band called Mute when he was 12 years old!
